August 21, 2008 ECCV Sod Installation Update - ECCV will allow customers to plant sod or seed starting on August 30, nearly two weeks earlier than usual, in order to take advantage of the long Labor Day weekend for planting. Residents are restricted from installing sod or seed during the summer months, due to higher water demand to establish the turf. Customers who plant new sod or seed are granted variances from current District watering restrictions, as follows:
Sod Watering: Residents planting new sod may water every day for 14 days between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to establish the sod. Watering is acceptable up to three times a day, five minutes per zone for pop-up spray heads, 15 minutes for rotors. After the initial 14 days, residents must comply with ECCV's watering restrictions.
Seed Watering: Seed may be watered every day for the first 14 days after planting, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Watering is acceptable up to three cycles per day, five minutes for pop-up spray heads and 15 minutes for rotors. For the third week after planting, residents may water one cycle per day. For the fourth week, watering must be limited to once every other day. After 28 days, District watering restrictions apply. No special permits are required for this new planting program, but save your receipt in case you are cited for a violation.
